Who is Allama Prabhu (Deified)
Allama Prabhu is a revered saint of the Lingayat tradition in Karnataka, deified by his followers as an embodiment of jnana (knowledge) and mystical realization. He is considered one of the foremost Vachana poets, whose compositions form a core part of the Lingayat canon. According to the *Shiva Purana* and the *Basava Purana*, Allama Prabhu was a contemporary of Basavanna and other Sharanas in the 12th-century Anubhava Mantapa (hall of spiritual experience) in Kalyana.
His vachanas, collected in the *Shunyasampadane* (the attainment of the void), emphasize the direct experience of the divine through the Ishtalinga, rejecting ritualism, caste hierarchy, and external worship. Iconographically, Allama Prabhu is depicted as a serene mystic, often holding or wearing the Ishtalinga, with a transcendent expression symbolizing his union with the formless absolute (Shunya). His teachings, recorded in the *Allama Prabhu Vachanas*, stress the inner journey and the dissolution of the ego.
Regional worship is concentrated in Karnataka, especially among the Lingayat community, where his vachanas are recited in temples and homes. Festivals dedicated to him coincide with major Lingayat celebrations, such as Basava Jayanti. In Hindu cosmology, Allama Prabhu represents the path of knowledge (jnana yoga) and the ideal of the realized soul who transcends worldly attachments, serving as a model for spiritual seekers.
His legacy continues through the Lingayat tradition, which venerates him as a saint and a teacher of the highest truth.
