மலைமேல், கொங்கணச் சித்தர் தங்கி தவம் செய்த சிறிய குகை உள்ளது. சிவனைக் கண்டு வணங்கியவர் இவர்; மேற்கே உள்ள ஊதியூர் மலையில் தவம் செய்த அவர், ஊதி, ஊதி பொன் தயாரித்தார் என்று கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது. மட்டமான உலோகங்களுடன் பச்சிலைச்சாற்றினைச் சேர்த்து கொங்கணர் செம்பொன் செய்ததாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது. மலையின் வடபுறம், பொன் ஊதியத்திற்கு அடையாளமாக மண் குழாய்கள் பல இன்றும் கிடைக்கின்றன. கொங்கணச் சித்தர் வாழ்வுடனும் வரலாற்றுடனும் தொடர்புப்படுத்திக் கூறப்படுவதால், ஊதியூர் மலை, கொங்கணகிரி எனவும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
