மைசூர் மகாராஜாவின் அரசாங்கப் பிரதிநிதி ஒருவன், கோயம்புத்தூர் பகுதியில் கோட்டை கட்டி ஆட்சி செய்து வந்தான். எதிரிகள் தேச எல்லைக்குள் வராமலும், அப்படி யாரேனும் வந்து போரிட்டாலும் இவனுக்கே வெற்றி கிடைக்குமாறும் காத்தருளினார் முனீஸ்வர சுவாமி. இதனால் கோட்டை முனீஸ்வரர் என்ற திருநாமம் உண்டானது என்கின்றனர் பக்தர்கள்.
கரும்பு படைத்து முனீஸ்வரரை வணங்கினால், எதிரிகள் தொல்லை விலகும்என்பது தலத்தின் சிறப்பாகும்.
