அர்ச்சுனபுரி என்றழைக்கப்படும் கடையநல்லூரில் தேவேந்திரன் சாப விமோசனம் நீங்குவதற்காக இங்குள்ள கிராமத்தைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்து, ஈசான திசையில் ஒரு குளம் வெட்டி அருணாசலேஸ்வரை பிரதிஷ்டை செய்தான். சிவனுக்கு வடபுறத்தே பத்ரகாளியை பிரதிஷ்டை செய்து சாபம் நீங்கி இந்திர பதவி அடைந்தார் என்பது புராண வரலாறு.
மூலவர் செல்லியம்மன் அஷ்ட தஜ புஜங்களுடன் அருள்பாலிப்பது சிறப்பு.
