Bhuvaneshwari Kundalini Dhyana Mantra

भुवनेश्वरी कुण्डलिनी ध्यान मन्त्र
Also known as: Bhuvaneshwari Kundalini, Cosmic Power, Space
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

This dhyana mantra is dedicated to Bhuvaneshwari, the third of the ten Mahavidyas, who embodies the cosmic queen and the expansive nature of consciousness. The term 'Bhuvaneshwari' means 'Queen of the Universe' or 'She who is the space of all worlds,' and this mantra is used for meditation on the Kundalini Shakti in her aspect as the sovereign of the cosmos. The mantra is primarily found in tantric texts such as the Bhuvaneshwari Tantra and the Mantra Mahodadhi, which describe her as the supreme goddess who pervades all existence.

The beej-akshara 'Hreem' (ह्रीं) is central to her worship, representing the sound of creation, preservation, and dissolution, and is often incorporated into this dhyana. Phonetically, 'Hreem' combines the bija of the heart (Hrdaya) with the fire of transformation, making it potent for awakening the serpent power. According to the Bhuvaneshwari Tantra, chanting this dhyana mantra with visualization of the goddess seated on a lotus, holding a noose, goad, and granting boons, leads to the realization of the universe within oneself.

The traditional purpose includes the expansion of consciousness, sovereignty over one's inner world, and the awakening of Kundalini in a controlled, expansive manner. Recommended chanting context is during the early morning or at night, in a quiet space, with a count of 108 repetitions using a rudraksha or crystal mala. Practitioners often perform this during Navaratri or on full moon nights.

Cautions include the need for guidance from a qualified guru, as improper practice may lead to energetic imbalances. The Devi Mahatmya also extols Bhuvaneshwari as the cosmic power, linking her to the creation and sustenance of the universe.
