Kundalini Dhyana Mantra (Seven Chakras Final)

कुण्डलिनी ध्यान मन्त्र
Also known as: Seven Chakras, Full Chakra System, Complete Meditation
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Kundalini Dhyana Mantra (Seven Chakras Final) comprises the culminating meditation syllables for each of the seven principal chakras in the subtle body, as detailed in the *Shatchakra Nirupana* (a key text from the *Tantric* tradition, translated by Sir John Woodroffe as *The Serpent Power*). This mantra set is chanted to facilitate the systematic purification and activation of the energy centers from Muladhara (root) to Sahasrara (crown), enabling the controlled ascent of Kundalini Shakti.

Each chakra is associated with a specific bija (seed) mantra: Lam for Muladhara, Vam for Swadhisthana, Ram for Manipura, Yam for Anahata, Ham for Vishuddhi, Om for Ajna, and silence or the unstruck sound (Anahata Nada) for Sahasrara. According to the *Yoga-Kundalini Upanishad*, these bija mantras correspond to the tattvas (elements) and evoke the latent energies of each chakra.

The practice traditionally involves reciting each bija a prescribed number of times (often 108 repetitions per chakra) while visualizing the chakra's color, shape, and deity. The complete meditation is recommended for advanced practitioners under the guidance of a qualified guru, as premature or improper practice may cause energetic imbalances.

The *Mantra Mahodadhi* (chapter on chakra mantras) emphasizes that this dhyana should be performed in a purified space, preferably during Brahma Muhurta (pre-dawn hours), with a sattvic diet and celibacy observed during the sadhana period. The ultimate purpose is the union of Kundalini with Shiva in Sahasrara, leading to self-realization and liberation (moksha).
