Kundalini Mantra (Advanced)

कुण्डलिनी मन्त्र
Also known as: Kundalini Shakti, Serpent Power, Chakra Activation
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Kundalini Mantra (Advanced) refers to a class of esoteric mantras employed in Tantric and Yogic traditions for the awakening of Kundalini Shakti, the primordial cosmic energy said to lie dormant in a coiled form at the base of the spine (Muladhara chakra). The term 'Kundalini' derives from the Sanskrit root 'kundala' meaning 'coiled,' and is described in texts such as the *Yoga-Kundalini Upanishad* (1.1-2) as a serpentine power that, when aroused, ascends through the central channel (Sushumna nadi) piercing the six chakras to reach the Sahasrara at the crown, leading to spiritual liberation (Moksha).

The primary beej (seed) syllables associated with this practice are the chakra bijas: LAM (Muladhara), VAM (Svadhisthana), RAM (Manipura), YAM (Anahata), HAM (Vishuddhi), and OM (Ajna), as enumerated in the *Shat-Chakra-Nirupana* (verses 1-6). Advanced practitioners may also use the mantra 'Om Kundalinyai Namah' to invoke the goddess Kundalini directly.

According to the *Kundalini Tantra* (chapter 5), these mantras are chanted to purify the nadis, activate the chakras, and facilitate the controlled rise of Kundalini, bestowing siddhis (psychic powers) and ultimately Kaivalya (absolute freedom). Traditional practice recommends chanting 108 repetitions daily, ideally during Brahma Muhurta (pre-dawn) or at midnight, in a seated posture with a straight spine, after receiving initiation (Diksha) from a qualified guru.

Cautions are emphasized in the *Mantra-Yoga-Samhita* (3.12-15): premature or forceful awakening without proper purification and guidance can lead to physical, mental, or energetic imbalances. Therefore, these mantras are considered advanced and are to be approached with reverence, discipline, and under the supervision of an experienced teacher.
