Siddha Muppu Alchemy Dhyana Mantra

सिद्ध मुप्पु रसायन ध्यान मन्त्र
Also known as: Muppu, Alchemical Salt, Siddha Alchemy
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Siddha Muppu Alchemy Dhyana Mantra is a contemplative formula from the Tamil Siddha tradition, focused on Muppu—the threefold alchemical salt composed of pūṅku (white salt), kāram (red salt), and vēṟu (black salt). According to the Siddha alchemical manuscripts, such as the *Bogar Karpam 300* and the *Agastya Nadi*, Muppu is considered the essential catalyst for transforming base metals into gold and for perfecting the human body (kaya siddhi). The mantra is chanted during the preparation of the sacred salt, invoking the grace of the Siddha Gurus—especially Agastya, Bogar, and Tirumular—who are said to have attained immortality through such alchemical practices. The dhyana (meditative) aspect of the mantra involves visualizing the three salts as representing the three doshas (vata, pitta, kapha) or the three gunas (sattva, rajas, tamas), and their harmonious union leading to spiritual and physical perfection.

The beej-akshara (seed syllable) 'Om' is often prefixed, and the mantra may include the word 'Muppu' itself as a resonant focus. Phonetically, the repetition of 'Muppu' is believed to activate the subtle energies of the earth and fire elements, aligning the practitioner's body with the alchemical process. Traditional purposes include healing chronic diseases, rejuvenation (rasayana), and attaining a divine, imperishable body. The recommended chanting context is during the waxing moon (shukla paksha), preferably at dawn or dusk, in a clean, isolated space.

A count of 108 repetitions per session is typical, often performed while handling the actual salts or meditating on their symbolic forms. Caution is advised: the mantra should only be practiced under the guidance of a qualified Siddha guru, as the alchemical salts themselves can be toxic if improperly prepared. The *Mantra-Yoga-Samhita* also warns that such mantras require prior purification (diksha) and should not be chanted casually. The Siddha tradition holds that sincere practice of this dhyana mantra, combined with the correct preparation of Muppu, can lead to the attainment of siddhis (supernatural powers) and ultimately liberation while living (jivanmukti).
