Runa Vimochana Mantra

ऋण विमोचन मन्त्र
Also known as: Debt Removal Mantra, Runa Mukti Mantra, Poverty Alleviation Mantra
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Runa Vimochana Mantra is a sacred formula chanted for relief from debts and financial burdens. Its textual origins are found in the Lakshmi Purana and various Tantras, where it is prescribed as a means to invoke divine grace for debt removal. The mantra is primarily associated with Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of prosperity, and Lord Kubera, the treasurer of the gods, as well as Lord Shiva in his aspect as the destroyer of obstacles. The beej-aksharas (seed syllables) such as 'Shreem', 'Hreem', and 'Kleem' are central to these mantras; 'Shreem' is the bija of Lakshmi, 'Hreem' represents the divine energy of transformation, and 'Kleem' attracts and fulfills desires.

According to the Mantra Mahodadhi, the phonetics of these syllables resonate with cosmic energies to purify karmic debts and attract prosperity. The traditional purpose of this mantra is to overcome financial difficulties, repay loans, and achieve freedom from debt. It is believed to alleviate poverty by removing obstacles to wealth and promoting financial healing. Recommended chanting context includes reciting 108 times daily, preferably on Thursdays or during auspicious occasions like Akshaya Tritiya and Dhanteras.

The ideal ritual setting involves facing east, using a japa mala, and offering a lamp or incense to an image of Lakshmi or Kubera. Cautions include maintaining purity of mind and body, avoiding chanting during impure states, and not using the mantra for selfish or harmful purposes. The Runa Vimochana Lakshmi Stotram, found in the Lakshmi Purana, is a longer hymn that combines these mantras for comprehensive debt relief. Jyotisha texts also recommend this mantra when planetary afflictions cause financial distress.
