Also known as: Dhana Lakshmi, Monetary Wealth, Money Goddess
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Dhana Lakshmi Dhyana Mantra is a meditative verse used for visualizing and invoking the aspect of Goddess Lakshmi known as Dhana Lakshmi, the bestower of monetary wealth and material abundance. This mantra is primarily found in the Lakshmi Tantra, a Pancharatra text that elaborates on the forms and worship of Lakshmi. According to the Lakshmi Tantra, Dhana Lakshmi is one of the eight principal forms of Lakshmi (Ashta Lakshmi), each presiding over a different form of prosperity. The dhyana mantra serves as a tool for mental concentration, enabling the practitioner to vividly imagine the goddess's form, attributes, and blessings. The mantra typically includes descriptions of Dhana Lakshmi's iconography: she is depicted with four arms, holding a lotus and a pot of gold coins, while showering coins with her lower hands, symbolizing the continuous flow of wealth.

The beej-akshara (seed syllable) 'Shreem' is often associated with Lakshmi mantras, representing prosperity and abundance. The phoneme 'Shreem' is considered to resonate with the energy of Lakshmi, and its repetition is believed to attract wealth and remove financial obstacles. The traditional purpose of this dhyana mantra is to purify the mind and align the practitioner's consciousness with the divine energy of Dhana Lakshmi, thereby inviting financial stability and growth. It is chanted during the worship of Lakshmi, especially on Fridays, during Diwali, and on Dhanteras. The recommended chanting count is 108 times, preferably in the morning or evening, facing east or north.

The ritual setting includes a clean altar with an image or yantra of Lakshmi, offerings of red flowers, incense, and sweets. Cautions: This mantra should be chanted with a pure heart and without attachment to material gains alone; it is meant to foster both material and spiritual prosperity. As with all dhyana mantras, proper pronunciation and visualization are crucial for efficacy. The Devi Mahatmya also extols the glory of Lakshmi as the giver of wealth, and the Lalita Sahasranama includes names that refer to her wealth-bestowing aspects. Thus, the Dhana Lakshmi Dhyana Mantra is a powerful means to invoke the goddess's grace for monetary well-being.
